Re: World Cup Schedule
Kick-Off:Tuesday, June 22, 20:30 CET.
Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane.
Overcoming The Favourites
This is only Greece's second World Cup, but unlike their debut this time the Europeans have been quite successful. Last time, in USA '94, Greece lost all their games and went home without bagging a single point or scoring a single goal; this time around they have a real chance of progressing to the knockout stage.
At the moment Otto Rehhagel's side are third in Group B with three points from two matches. Greece lost their opening game of the group 2-0 to South Korea in a dire display but stepped up their game considerably in their second match against Nigeria as they came back from a goal down to defeat the Africans 2-1, although the Greeks did have numerical superiority after the Super Eagles went a man down in the 33rd minute.
A win against Argentina on Tuesday evening could see Greece qualify for the last 16. Greece are level on points with South Korea, who have three points as well, but with Diego Armando Maradona's side yet to secure qualification it is not going to be easy for the Greeks to collect maximum points in Polokwane.
Almost, Almost Through
Argentina were marked out to be a disaster by many pundits at the start of the World Cup but they have been anything but. A 1-0 win against Nigeria in their opening game of the group was followed by a stupendous 4-1 defeat of South Korea in their second match, meaning that a draw will certainly take the Albiceleste through to the next round; in fact Argentina could lose and still qualify for the last 16 if Nigeria win or draw against South Korea in the other match.
Gonzalo Higuain scored a hat-trick against the Koreans in the last match but it was Lionel Messi's performance that caught the eye most. The Barcelona star was arguably the most impressive player on the pitch as he is finally transforming his club form onto the international arena and putting a tape over his detractors' mouths.
However, Argentina should be careful against Greece. The Europeans appear to have picked up some momentum and are still in with a chance of qualification for the last 16.
FORM GUIDE
Greece
June 17: Greece 2-1 Nigeria (World Cup)
June 12: South Korea 2-0 Greece (World Cup)
June 2: Greece 0-2 Paraguay (Friendly)
May 25: Greece 2-2 North Korea (Friendly)
March 3: Greece 0-2 Senegal (Friendly)
Argentina
June 17: Argentina 4-1 South Korea (World Cup)
June 12: Argentina 1-0 Nigeria (World Cup)
May 24: Argentina 5-0 Canada (Friendly)
May 6: Argentina 4-0 Haiti (Friendly)
March 3: Germany 0-1 Argentina (Friendly)
TEAM NEWS
Greece
Vangelis Moras remains injured for Greece, who are, however, expected to start with the same bunch of players who defeated Nigeria 2-1.
Probable Line-up (5-3-2): Tzorvas, Vyntra, Papastathopoulos, Papadopoulos, Kyrgiakos, Torosidis; Tziolis, Katsouranis, Karagounis; Salpingidis, Gekas
Argentina
Jonas Gutierrez is suspended for Argentina. This implies that Nicolas Otamendi will replace him at right-back. A number of other changes are expected in the line-up as Sergio Aguero and Diego Milito are likely to replace Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez up front.
Probable Line-up (4-3-1-2): Romero, Otamendi, Demichelis, Burdisso, C. Rodriguez; Maxi Rodriguez, Bolatti, Veron; Messi; Milito, Aguero
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Dimitris Salpigidis (Greece)
Salpingidis was the best player for Greece against Nigeria. He was the main danger to the Nigerians and also scored a goal. Argentina's defensive line is yet to be tested in this World Cup and the 28-year-old will be looking to make inroads into the South Americans' citadel.
Lionel Messi (Argentina)
The world's finest player turned up on the world's biggest stage as he demolished South Korea in the last match. Gonzalo Higuain's hat-trick owed much to the 22-year-old's ability to take the ball and run at the oppsotion's defence and the Barcelona star will be looking to do the same against Greece. The Europeans tend to play a very defensive football but if there is anyone who can shake the Greek backline, then it is Messi.
PREDICTION
Argentina have virtually qualified for the last 16 but they will still be up for a win. They have far superior quality and class than the Greeks, who have struggled so far in the World Cup. The Castrol World Cup match predictor gives the South Americans a 64% chance of bagging maximum points from this fixture while Greece are given 14%; a draw is put at 22%.

I'm with the Greek. They will thrash Argentinos to the ground by 9-0. Maradona is silly to get the 2nd team for the Greek.Reply

2-1 seems fair without excluding suprise(s) provided the players are not dopped like their coach use to score when he was playing .Reply

Argentina 2-1 that's it. DID you read what Greece has done in their last
five matches. Four losses and a win over a ten-man Nigeria squad.
Argentina wins as least by three goals.
final score 5-0 argentina
