Liverpool's Alvaro Arbeloa Interests Real Madrid
Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa is the subject of an £8 million bid from Spanish Primera Division giants Real Madrid, according to The Sun.
The Spain international is thought to be next on Madrid president Florentino Perez's transfer shopping list, after the purchase of Brazilian playmaker Kaka and the almost completed deal for Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo.
It is thought the bid came in just 24 hours after Perez reached an agreement with the Red Devils to sign Ronaldo.
The 26-year-old has become a key member of Benitez's team, and the Spaniard will find it hard to let the defender leave.
But the Reds boss has been told he must sell to raise his own transfer budget and he may be forced to sell Arbeloa if he wishes to complete any summer signings.
Liverpool signed the right-back from Deportivo La Coruna for a fee of £3 million in 2007, but Madrid are confident they can bring the defender back to Spain.
After spending heavily on two attacking options, Madrid are set to rebuild their defence, with Valencia's Raul Albiol also set to become the subject of a bid from the Spanish giants.
It is not known whether Arbeloa would like to move back to his native Spain, but he may be tempted by a big contract offer from Madrid.

Manchester United To Make Shock Move For Liverpool Star Fernando Torres – Report
Manchester United are reportedly set to use the £80 million they will receive for Cristiano Ronaldo to make a bid for Liverpool’s Fernando Torres.
The Sunday Express claims that the Red Devils will attempt to make an audacious swoop for the Spanish striker as they seek to replace the Real Madrid-bound Ronaldo.
Whilst Liverpool would be loath to see Torres leave, and particularly to bitter rivals United, the report claims that Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to offer £40 million, a figure he believes can tempt the Merseysiders.
A bid of such size would double the amount Liverpool paid for the striker, when they signed him from Atletico Madrid in 2007.
With striker Carlos Tevez also expected to follow Ronaldo out of the Old Trafford exit, attacking options appear to be top of United’s shopping list this summer.
The Premier League champions have already been linked with a host of names including Karim Benzema, Samuel Eto’o, Franck Ribery, Antonio Valencia and David Silva.
Yet they undoubtedly face a tough challenge in replacing Ronaldo who, once again, finished the season as the club’s top scorer.
Of course, Torres could certainly provide the club with goals; the Spaniard managed 14 league goals in an injury-ravaged campaign last term and 24 in the Premier League in his first season at the club.

Barcelona Offer Liverpool Eto'o In Mascherano Deal - Reports
Barcelona are not giving up in their bid to sign Javier Mascherano this summer and are reportedly ready to use Samuel Eto'o as part of a deal that will see the Argentine move to Spain.
The Mirror reports that Barcelona have offered the striker to Liverpool and are still interested in signing Mascherano, despite assertions this week by Rafael Benitez that he is not for sale.
Certainly Eto'o's future at the Camp Nou does not look too promising at the moment with his contract running out next summer and an extension not yet signed.
The Cameroonian has been linked with a move to Inter as well as Liverpool and Manchester United, and it appears he could leave Barcelona.
Whether or not any deal for Mascherano would depend on a sale of Yaya Toure is not clear but the Argentine's agent, Walter Tamer, spoke this week about his client's dream to play for Barca.
One factor that the Spanish side might be looking to take advantage of is Liverpool's financial situation, which is not strong at the moment.
The Merseyside club will probably not have too much money to spend this summer and, with the forward line lacking depth, they might be tempted by Eto'o.

Family Problems May Force Javier Mascherano Out Of Liverpool – Report
Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano may decide to leave Anfield this summer because his family has failed to settle on Merseyside, claims a report in the News of the World.
The British tabloid reveals that whilst the Argentine is professionally happy at the club, he is willing to leave for the sake of his family.
The report adds that the midfielder’s wife, who is pregnant, is unhappy in Liverpool and even returned to South America before the end of last season with the couple’s daughter.
Mascherano’s future has been the subject of much discussion in recent weeks with the midfielder admitting he would be interested in a move to Barcelona, leading to speculation that the European champions may make an offer for the 25-year-old.
Whilst Reds boss Rafael Benitez has insisted he wants to keep the midfielder at the club, with finances an issue at Anfield, he may find it difficult should a tempting bid arrive from the Camp Nou.
Meannwhile, the News of the World quotes a ‘Kop source’ as insisting that Mascherano’s future is a big concern for Benitez.
"The truth is Javier loves Liverpool and is especially thankful to Rafa for everything he has done for his career in England,” explains the source.
“But he's facing a huge dilemma because he feels his family might be more settled in Spain.
“Nothing is certain, but it's true it's a big problem for the club.”

Liverpool Set To Land Javier Saviola - Report
Liverpool hope to be able to wrap up a deal that will see them rescue Javier Saviola from Real Madrid, after the two clubs agreed a fee for the Argentinian striker, according to reports.
Rafa Benitez believes that the 27-year-old could resurrect his career at Anfield by pairing up with Fernando Torres and the Merseyside outfit have held negotiations with Los Merengues.
A deal worth around £5 million (€6m) is believed to have been settled upon, media in Spain and England claim, and an official announcement could be made later this week.
Saviola has had few chances to impress during his two-year stint at the Santiango Bernabeu, after joining the club on a free transfer from Barcelona, and has been told he can leave this summer.
Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival has already signalled that he would be shunted even further down the pecking order as the Portuguese star has registered the trademark CR9, Saviola's current shirt number.
Early reports suggested that any deal would include Xabi Alonso, but it is now believed that the clubs are making the transfer of the goalscorer a separate issue.
Benitez is confident that he can draw the best out of the player that was once tipped to be the best young striker in Argentina when he was impressing with River Plate.
Even in his first few seasons at Barcelona, Saviola stood out and scored regularly for the Catalan side before being pushed down the pecking order and eventually loaned out to Monaco and Sevilla.

United ada hati pancing Torres
TORRES dilaporkan mendapat tawaran £40 juta (RM231 juta) daripada Manchester United.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Agensi

Report: David Villa Will Only Move To Premier League For Liverpool
The Spain striker is said to only be interested in a switch to England if he links up with fellow countrymen Fernando Torres and Rafa Benitez...
Valencia's David Villa has ruled out a move to the Premier League during the close-season unless it is to play for Liverpool, according to a report in the British tabloid The Sun.
Apparently, the 27-year-old has informed close friends that he would only consider swapping Spain for England if he were to link up with fellow countrymen Rafa Benitez and Fernando Torres.
The news, if true, has seemingly ruled out the possibility of seeing the Spain international, who has scored 29 goals in 45 caps for La Furia Roja, plying his trade in the Premier League.
While Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be interested in acquring his services, it appears he would not be interested in a switch to either club.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are not thought to be able to compete financially with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid for the 5ft 9in striker.

- AP

Kami kian serasi: Benitez
Liverpool yakin muncul juara EPL 09/10
- AFP

Benitez mula dihimpit tekanan
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Liverpool bagaimanapun mempunyai peluang mencipta gol, termasuk dua me- nerusi kaptennya, Steven Gerrard.
- Agensi

Premier League - Liverpool agree Aquilani move
Eurosport - Wed, 05 Aug 19:33:00 2009
Liverpool have moved quickly to line up a replacement for Xabi Alonso by agreeing a deal with Roma to sign Italy midfielder Alberto Aquilani subject to a medical.
Liverpool said on their website that they concluded their discussions with Serie A side Roma once the sale of Alonso to Real Madrid was finally agreed.
The 25-year-old slick-passing Aquilani, who will reportedly cost £20 million, is likely to play an important role for Italy in next year's World Cup finals.
"Alberto is a very good player and I'm delighted we've reached agreement with Roma for his transfer," said Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.
Aquilani, who suffered a string of injuries last season and is not yet 100 per cent fit after ankle surgery in May, will have a medical later this week.
"Alberto has a winning mentality and great experience in both Serie A and the Champions League. He has long been recognised as a top class talent in Italy, captaining his country at both under-19 and under-21 levels before establishing himself in the senior national side," Benitez added.
Aquilani is Liverpool's second major signing of the close season after England right-back Glen Johnson joined from Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee in June.
Roma needed to sell at least one of their best players to finance their close-season transfer dealings.

Benitez pasrah
- AFP
