• Arsenal, for their part, are seeking only a second away victory in the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League. That solitary win was the 5-2 success at Fenerbahçe SK on Matchday 3 in October although they can take confidence from having prevailed in their one previous meeting this season with United in the Premier League.

• This is Arsenal's second semi-final, their solitary past appearance having brought victory against Villarreal in 2005/06 (1-0 home, 0-0 away).

• United won on the only previous occasion they have faced another English club in the UEFA Champions League – last season's final against Chelsea in Moscow. Sir Alex's men prevailed 6-5 on penalties after Cristiano Ronaldo and Frank Lampard had traded first-half goals.

• Looking further back, they won their sole previous all-English two-legged European tie, defeating then holders Tottenham Hotspur FC in the first round of the 1963/64 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. United overturned a 2-0 first-leg loss with a 4-1 victory at Old Trafford.

• Arsenal will be hoping for third time lucky when it comes to facing compatriot clubs in Europe following earlier losses to Chelsea and Liverpool FC. The Gunners went down 5-3 on aggregate to Liverpool in last season's UEFA Champions League quarter-finals (1-1 home, 2-4 away) having previously lost at the same stage to Chelsea in the 2003/04 competition (1-1 away, 1-2 home).

• United and Arsenal have met 204 times in all competitions. The head-to-head record is 82 United wins, 77 Arsenal victories and 45 draws.

• The respective managers are the two longest-serving in the English Premier League, Sir Alex having arrived in Manchester in 1986 and Wenger in London in 1996. Rivals since the 1996/97 season, their clubs' full head-to-head record in that time is 14 wins for Arsenal, 13 for United and ten draws, although two of those drawn matches were settled in a shoot-out. • A less known international connection is that United midfielder Anderson played alongside Arsenal's Denilson for the Brazil team that finished runners-up at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru in 2005. Another Arsenal player, Carlos Vela, scored the opening goal for winners Mexico in their 3-0 final triumph.

• The second leg will take place at the Arsenal Stadium on 5 May with the winners advancing to a final against Barcelona or Chelsea at Rome's Stadio Olimpico on 27 May.

LONDON - Manchester United telah meng- adakan satu perbincangan dengan pemain Brazil, Kaka semalam, sekali gus bakal menyaksikan satu lagi perpindahan sensasi pada musim panas ini.

Wakil kepada pemain Brazil itu telah bertemu wakil United bagi membincangkan syarat-syarat tertentu dengan jumlah keseluruhan gaji dilaporkan mencecah 35 juta pound (RM185 juta).

Sumber terdekat kepada pemain kelab AC Milan itu mengesahkan perbincangan itu menunjukkan tanda-tanda positif meski- pun tiada sebarang perjanjian dibuat.

"Kaka mahu kontrak selama lima tahun dengan gaji 135,000 pound (RM713,677) seminggu. Dia sangat berminat untuk menyertai United. Jadi terpulang kepada mereka (United) untuk menentukannya.

"Pertemuan itu juga tidak melibatkan sebarang perbincangan mengenai yuran perpindahan tetapi Milan dijangka akan mendapat sekurang-kurangnya 70 juta pound (RM370 juta) jika melepaskan Kaka kepada United," kata sumber tersebut.

Persoalannya, bagaimanakah United mampu untuk mendapatkan jumlah wang sebesar itu dan salah satu kemungkinan, mereka akan menjual Cristiano Ronaldo kepada Real Madrid musim panas ini.

Kaka, 27, sebelum ini pernah mendedahkan bahawa dia berminat untuk beraksi dengan United kerana mahu beraksi bersama-sama pemain hebat dalam pasukan itu seperti Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes dan Wayne Rooney.

"Salah seorang rakan karib saya iaitu Ander- son juga berada di sana (United). Mereka adalah juara di England dan Eropah. Sudah tentu ia sebuah kelab yang hebat untuk saya sertai," kata Kaka. - Agensi

Giliran Arsenal selepas ini - Rooney

LONDON - Penyerang Manchester United, Wayne Rooney menjelaskan bahawa kejayaan pasukannya membelasah Tottenham 5-2 Sabtu lalu telah membakar semangat mereka untuk mengulanginya ke atas Arsenal.

Red Devils akan berdepan The Gunners pada aksi separuh akhir pertama Liga Juara-Juara di Old Trafford pagi Khamis ini.

Selepas mempamer kebangkitan luar biasa ketika ketinggalan 0-2 dalam aksi Liga Perdana England, Rooney percaya mereka akan turun pada pertemuan itu dengan penuh keyakinan.

"Sangat penting untuk memenanginya dan kekal di persada liga dengan jurang yang selesa. Ia memberi kami keyakinan untuk turun pada aksi Eropah minggu ini," kata Rooney.

Sementara itu, Carlos Tevez mungkin akan disenaraikan dalam skuad utama pada pertemuan dengan Arsenal nanti selepas berjaya memberi impak ketika mengalahkan Spurs.

Rafael signs new deal

Young Reds right-back Rafael has agreed a two-year contract extension, keeping the promising Brazilian teenager at Old Trafford until at least June 2013.

The Rio de Janeiro-born full-back has caught the eye with 24 first-team appearances, and ever since his Barclays Premier League debut against Newcastle in August, he's never looked out of his depth.

Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted with the rapid progress the 18-year-old former Fluminense starlet has made.

“Everyone at the club has been very impressed and excited by his first year as a professional," the United boss told ManUtd.com.

Ferdinand terlepas beraksi akibat retak tulang rusuk

MANCHESTER: Pemain pertahanan, Rio Ferdinand mungkin terpaksa melupakan baki perlawanan Manchester United memburu Liga Juara-Juara Eropah apabila beliau dilaporkan mengalami retak tulang rusuk.

Ia berlaku ketika pemain antarabangsa England itu beraksi untuk United mengalahkan Arsenal 1-0 pada perlawanan separuh akhir pusingan pertama di Old Trafford, pagi tadi.

"Rio mengalami keretakan pada tulang rusuknya. Kami harap ia bukannya patah dan dia boleh beraksi dalam dua atau tiga minggu lagi," kata pengurus United, Alex Ferguson said.

Ferdinand terpaksa dikeluarkan pada lewat masa permainan tamat sebelum segera dibawa dengan ambulans hospital untuk mengimbas kecederaan rusuknya itu. - AFP
