Zhirkov wouldn't turn down Chelsea
01.06.09 | tribalfootball.com
CSKA Moscow winger Yuri Zhirkov admits he wants a move to Chelsea.
"To play in English Premier League I, of course, would not refuse," said the speedy left winger. "But the question of my transfer does not depend on me, but from the directors of the two clubs.
"I can say that I haven't signed a contract with Chelsea and, moreover, I haven't been in contact with anyone from the club."

Terry: Chelsea will do great things under Ancelotti
02.06.09 | tribalfootball.com
John Terry is convinced Carlo Ancelotti is the right man to take charge of Chelsea.
Captain Terry paid tribute to Guus Hiddink's efforts in the second half of the season and is looking forward to the new challenges under Ancelotti, who has been confirmed as the club's new manager.
In an open letter to Chelsea fans, Terry wrote: "He (Hiddink) came at a difficult time when things looked like they were slipping away from us, so to lead us to an FA Cup final and within a whisker of the Champions League final is a great achievement.
"That said, third place in the league isn't good enough for Chelsea anymore. It's our worst finish since Mr Abramovich bought the club and we all know we need to do better.
"It is fantastic to win the FA Cup but we want more and that's the way it needs to be for us these days.
"We will all enjoy the time we have off now and come back for pre-season as determined as ever and of course looking forward to achieving great things with the new manager Carlo Ancelotti."

Michael Ballack Signs New Deal At Chelsea
The German will be staying on at Stamford Bridge for another season...
Chelsea have confirmed on their official website that the fiercely competitive midfielder Michael Ballack has signed a new contract that will keep him in west London until at least 2010.
The player is clearly pleased to have inked the new contract, which has guaranteed his immediate future at one of Europe's top clubs in the season leading up to next year's World Cup in South Africa, and is also delighted to be working alongside Chelsea's new manager Carlo Ancelotti.
"I am very happy to be staying at Chelsea for one more year as it was always my intention to play in London at least until the World Cup in 2010," the German told the Blues' website.
"We had a fantastic end to the season winning the FA Cup and we are all looking forward to taking this success into the new season under Carlo Ancelotti, our new manager."
The club themselves confirmed that the deal was mutually pleasing, releasing a statement on their website which read:
"Michael has been a key member of our team for three years so we are naturally very happy that we have agreed the extension."
A new spirit seems to have swept through Chelsea in the wake of Guus Hiddink's short spell at the club, and Ballack's commitment for another year is a good sign that the momentum will be maintained.

Chelsea Have €43m Bid For Valencia's David Villa Turned Down - Report
Following the reported transfer scramble for AC Milan's Kaka, Real Madrid and Chelsea could face a second tug-of-war, this time over Spanish hotshot David Villa.
Respected Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has today declared that Chelsea have lodged an unsuccessful €43 million bid for Valencia's in-demand striker David Villa.
Much in the same vein as the speculation surrounding Kaka, Balague believes that this could spark a tug-of-war auction between the Blues and Real Madrid, both of whom covet a proven world class goal-scorer.
Balague recently confided to Sky Sports News, "There will be an offer for Villa [from Real Madrid] next week, which means that there will be another Chelsea versus Real Madrid fight because Chelsea have put an offer to Valencia of €43m, which Valencia have not accepted."
He continued by commenting that should the decision ultimately come down to Villa's personal preference, then he will likely choose Madrid. "The player wants to go to Real Madrid and it's only a matter of days [until he does]," Balague said.
Villa was Spain's top scorer at last summer's European Championship. His team-mate, David Silva, has also been linked with a move to the Premier League, albeit to Rafael Benitez's Liverpool.

Lampard: Ancelotti is a winner
Frank Lampard is optimistic new Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti can take the club to the next level.
Lampard is currently preparing for England's double World Cup header with Kazhakstan in Almaty and Andorra at Wembley next Wednesday.
But he is already excited at the prospect of working under the Italian, especially with him being linked with bringing star players such as Kaka to Stamford Bridge.
Lampard said: "Can Ancelotti take Chelsea to the next level? I hope so. I am sure the club hope so. It is a very good and positive appointment.
"I think we all had a great time under Guus Hiddink for six months, but we all knew that was going to come to an end and we all respected that.
"Ancelotti has been a very impressive manager with the titles he has won, the players he has worked with, and particularly with the bond he seems to strike with his players.
"I have been lucky to have that with a lot of my managers, particularly Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink, and everyone I have spoken to about Ancelotti, who has worked closely with him, gives him lots of praise as a man and as a manager.
"Myself and the Chelsea boys here are very excited about the future."
Lampard has confidence in what Ancelotti can bring to the Blues especially after his experiences under fellow Italian managers in Claudio Ranieri and current England boss Fabio Capello.
He said: "All Italian managers I have played under, and there have been a few now, all come from the same kind of stock.
"They are very aware of fitness, of tactics and they have had a big input into our game.
"When I first came to Chelsea, I played under Claudio Ranieri, and he certainly had a big impact on me, on how I lived my life and how I trained and Fabio Capello has been a very positive influence.
"I like their work ethic, I think they work players very hard in training, and they get their teams working together and hopefully that will continue at Chelsea."
Lampard would welcome with open arms the likes of Kaka making the move from Milan to Chelsea, although Real Madrid are also strong contenders to sign the Brazilian.
He said: "The last two years we have been quite close to a lot of things at Chelsea, but not quite winning them. We've got a strong group at Chelsea anyway.
"To see us linked with those names (like Kaka), the quality of player, is brilliant.
"I don't want to go into individuals but the intention seems there for Chelsea especially with the new manager, the fact we are looking at that calibre of player.
"I think our squad is very strong and if we can add one or two of those names then we will look forward to next season and hopefully be challenging for the Premier League, Champions League and everything."
From his own perspective Lampard believes he has just enjoyed his best ever season and hopes to be able to continue into the World Cup in 12 months time.
He said: "Am I in my prime? I'd like to think so. Personally I've feel I've had my best season even though it didn't bring lots of silverware for the team.
"I've been pleased with how I've played. The World Cup is still a year away. I don't want to make any promises of what will happen in a year's time.
"All I want to do is carry on with this form, try and improve it, and take it into the World Cup."
Lampard is also content with having to play in a more withdrawn role with England compared to his surging runs into the box with Chelsea which have seen him top 20 goals again for the season.
He said: "I enjoy the challenge of the switch. Obviously everyone who knows and watches me, knows my preferred role is to be in the box regularly and play as I do at Chelsea.
"But you have to be professional and big enough and intelligent enough to play in different roles that suit the team.
"There are quite a few players, since the England manager has come in, who has slightly altered their roles and the way they play and the main benefit has to be for the team.
"You can see that in the results. I enjoy being part of a winning team."
