Giggs hails world-class Rooney

Ryan Giggs believes Wayne Rooney is about to gatecrash world football’s Holy Trinity of Kaka, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. That trio are widely acknowledged as the best on the planet but Rooney is ready to make it a foursome. Manchester United team-mate Giggs said: “He is getting nearer that group. You have seen it for England and for us on the bigger stages. That is what all the top players do. The best thing is that Wayne is still developing. He is 24 and he is only going to get better. His appetite is strong and he is a great player to have in your team.” Rooney’s natural talent is not in question but what has impressed Giggs is his team-mate’s capacity for hard graft. “Even if he is not playing well, he still causes problems for the other team,” said Giggs. “That is a very rare quality. Wayne has taken his game to another level and has developed his game so that now he is a goalscorer as well as joining in with the overall play."

In other news, the Star claim Owen Hargreaves has been left out of United’s Champions League squad list which was submitted to UEFA this week. Hargreaves had hoped to be back for the clash with AC Milan this month after 17 months out with tendinitis in his knees but has been replaced by defender Ritchie De Laet.
