Diego Happy With Brazilian Touch At Juventus
Diego is pleased to have Brazilian compatriots by his side in Turin...
21 Aug 2009 20:09:10

Diego signed for Juventus from Werder Bremen for €24.5 million in May as the Italian club hope to put an end to Inter's reign in the Serie A.

The former Porto man has joined Amauri and Felipe Melo, the other two Brazilian players at the Turin-based club, and Diego is happy that the Old Lady are betting on talent from his native country.

"The quality of the Brazilians help, but our thought is on adding our capacity to the team, and we have been able to do that so far," Diego told GLOBOESPORTE.

"But after the season officially starts, we will need to improve even more."

Diego has earned comparisons with former Juventus stars Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane, but the Brazilian has now distanced himself from such remarks.

"First of all, I feel proud to be compared to those players, I have them as personal idols," Diego explained. "I know there is a lot to be done for Juventus, I hope one day I will obtain the same success they did with this shirt.

"It is a great wish because I have received a lot of affection and attention from everyone ever since I got here. The fans have been wonderful."

The 24-year-old playmaker also took some time to praise Alessandro Del Piero, whom he considers to be a consummate professional.

"Yes, he really is [an example], no doubt about it. Del Piero is a legend at the club. Players like him always have something to teach us.

"He has been at the club for many years and he can give me hints, he can teach me the path I will have to follow to enter Juventus' history. I will have my eye on him every minute I can."
Serie A - Round-up: Diego inspires Juventus

Eurosport - Sun, 30 Aug 22:50:00 2009

JUVENTUS F.C. :: I BIANCONERRI - Page 2 9afce3686e794df3200631f46c8c0d46
Juventus won 3-1 at Roma in Serie A thanks to goals from Brazilians Diego and Felipe Melo.

Diego (pictured) put the visitors ahead on 25 minutes after a mistake from Marco Cassetti but Daniele De Rossi equalised with a spectacular long-range shot 10 minutes later.

Juve went back in front with just over half an hour left thanks to a brilliant goal from Diego, while Melo sealed an impressive debut with an individual effort of his own deep into stoppage time.

It is wins from two Serie A games for the Bianconeri this season, while Luciano Spalletti's side have yet to get a point.

Juventus were the better side in the first half but Roma could easily have gone into the break ahead.

The visitors went close with Amauri agonisingly close to converting Vincenzo Iaquinta's left-wing cross while Giorgio Chiellini forced a good stop from Julius Sergio with a near-post header from Diego's corner.

They took the lead after a moment of madness from Roma right-back Cassetti, who gave the ball away to Diego just inside the hosts' half.

The Brazilian, in his second game for Juve, raced clear of Cassetti, held off a challenge from John Arne Riise and clipped a low finish into the far corner.

Roma levelled 10 minutes later after a quickly-taken free-kick by David Pizarro released De Rossi, who took a touch and fired a brilliant, dipping shot into the top right with Gianluigi Buffon off his line.

Amauri hit the woodwork with two minutes of the half remaining, but Roma spurned a great chance to take the lead in stoppage time after Jeremy Menez sent Francesco Totti clean on goal only for Buffon to block brilliantly.

Eight minutes into the second half, Roma debutant Sergio made a good stop from Amauri's drive, and he repeated the heroics 13 minutes later when the former Palermo striker headed sub Mauro Camaronesi's cross to the bottom left.

Juve were in the ascendance and got their goal thanks to a moment of brilliance from Diego on 68 minutes.

Racing on to Iaquinta's through-ball on the right, the man who signed from Werder Bremen in the summer shimmied in and out without touching the ball to leave the Roma defence for dead before drilling a low finish into the bottom left.

Roma responded with urgency but Menez fired wide while Totti saw a low drive deflected against the post.

Juve were holding on and boss Ciro Ferrara looked worried when the fourth official signalled five minutes in injury time.

But Melo had other ideas, somehow finding the energy to run from halfway as Roma stood off, allowing him to drill a left-foot shot from the edge of the box past the diving Julio Sergio into the bottom right.

Serie A - Juve march on in Serie A

Juventus maintained their perfect start to the Serie A season with a 2-0 win over Livorno.

In the early game in Serie A, Napoli and Udinese shared the spoils in an entertaining 0-0 draw.

Juventus never looked back from the moment Gianluigi Buffon made a fine smothering save to deny Francesco Tavano.

The home side took the lead on eight minutes, Vincenzo Iaquinta heading Mauro Camoranesi's excellent centre into the bottom corner.

Camoranesi was the architect of Juve's second goal on the half-hour, with the midfielder slipping a perfect pass into the path of Claudio Marchisio and he clipped a superb chip into the top corner.

Livorno were not without chances, Buffon denying Cristiano Lucarelli and Tavano, while at the other end Alfonso De Lucia pulled off a fine save to thwart Iaquinta.

Buffon was busy after the break, making saves from Tomas Danilevicius and Antonio Candreva, but Juve could have extended their margin of victory had David Trezeuet not hit a post and volleyed over from eight yards

Udinese came away from Napoli with a creditable 0-0 draw.

Both sides were intent on attack and there were chances aplenty, but the main talking point was Antonio di Natale's disallowed strike.

The Udinese forward thought he had fired his side ahead moments before the interval but his volley from a corner was controversially chalked off for offside.

Chances were traded at both ends in the second half, with Marek Hamsik guilty of missing a sitter for Napoli following superb wing play from the excellent Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Juventus Keeper Buffon: It's A Good Period For Me
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon talked about his impressive recent form following the match against Livorno.
Sep 19, 2009 5:07:41 PM

Although Juventus rarely suffered during tonight's 2-0 victory against Livorno, goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon still pulled off a number of great saves, confirming he's in fine shape after a difficult, injury-laden 2008/2009 season.

"It's a good period," he said after the match to Sky Sport. "There's nothing special, it's just that when you come off months in which you are tormented by all sorts of pains, and are feeling good, you get back the joy and desire to play. Also the criticism motivated me."

On the team's victory tonight, Buffon said: "We won comfortably, Livorno made us suffer sometimes but we played a very good match."

Tonight's win was the fourth in a row for Juventus in Serie A, after they beat Chievo in the opening match, and Roma and Lazio away from home.
"The four consecutive victories? It certainly gives us optimism, but we know we have to improve a lot," Buffon concluded.

new homeground of JUVE!
Capacity would be reduced to 33,000-35,000
Running track removed
Seats moved closer to pitch
"probably" will have a sponsor name like in EPL, i.e. Reebok Stadium or Arsenal's Emirate Stadium.

Buffon: «Expected by nine crucial days»

Two victories in four days gave back tranquility and restarted Juventus machine, in Champions as well as in Italian Championship. Scores 1-0 achieved vs. Maccabi Haifa and Siena showed a Juve still looking for right automatisms, but also for a solid defense which guaranteed to maximize Chiellini’s and Amauri’s goals.

Hermetic defense and an extraordinary Buffon. As it happened also yesterday at Franchi Stadium when, by an exit on Ekdal at first half end, he avoided chasing. The day after the success in the land of the Palio, the number one resumed through his internet site www.gianluigibuffon.com.

«We came back from Siena with an important victory– Gigi said-. We are satisfied with these three points also if, every one of us is aware that we have to improve as soon as possible. In such period, when you are “sickly”, the important thing is to return having certain continuity in winning».

Two victories in four days allowed Juventus to get to second place in Champions’ round and keep two points below Sampdoria, right on the eve of direct match scheduled for Wednesday. The match vs. blucerchiati will open up another very important cycle: «We are going to face another crucial period. Nine crucial days for giving our season a target, concerning the Championship, as well as the Champions League. We will have important answers starting with next three engagements vs. Sampdoria, Napoli and Maccabi Haifa and that’s why we must be attentive and focused, but also confident».

Juventus’ philosophy is to look at a commitment at a time. Therefore the attention is totally for Del Neri’s team, a real surprise of this season beginning. Nothing of current Sampdoria is to be neglected and Buffon knows it: «We are going to face one of most fit teams, currently playing Italian best soccer. For this reason we have to congratulate for their organization on the pitch and their trainer. Anyway remembering that everything would be more difficult without the many quality elements in the team, like Cassano, Pazzini, Palombo and Mannini, but also my collegue Castellazzi, who is really doing a great championship».

Finally a thought for Iaquinta who right tomorrow will be operated at his knee and for a little won’t be able to give his support to the team: «I want to send my personal “good luck” to Vincenzo. I hope he will soon come back with us because we really need him». - juventus.com
