Re: CHELSEA :: THE BLUES
MALOUDA LEADS THE WAY
Goalscorer Florent Malouda believes it was important to take advantage after our title rivals dropped points over the weekend.
The Frenchman scored the second in our 2-0 win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, and is desperate to maintain the form that earned us the three points, after Manchester United could only draw at home to Sunderland on Saturday.
'I think it is a very good result, because we played against Liverpool, a good team, and the reaction was good after we lost away at Wigan,' the winger said. 'Now we are on top of the league, there was a good result when Man U drew and we had to take advantage of this by winning at home.
'The season is going to be long so it was important to take advantage and it's important to win points at home, which is where I think we lost the title in past years, and that's what we are trying to change this year. We must win every game at home and we are happy because this was against Liverpool and everything is okay.'
The victory seemed to prove what Carlo Ancelotti had said before the game, that he had fixed what had gone wrong in the previous games against Wigan and APOEL.
'After the Wigan game we had to speak and to be fair everybody knows it was not a performance we were expecting,' Malouda admitted. 'We had an important game in the Champions League and it was hard but we won, and in the league we had a big team to play against.
'We are not trying to please everybody, I think it was better to struggle a bit in Cyprus and win the game, which was most important. You have to win some games in difficulty, we want to be qualified as quickly as possible, and sometimes you have to win games when it doesn't look good. If we keep on winning then we have confidence for games like today.'
His injury-time goal was Malouda's second such strike of the season, following his late winner at Stoke three weeks ago. He admits this time the plaudits must go to Didier Drogba, whose strength and skills created the opportunity.
'I don't do it on purpose!' he joked about the late goals, 'but it is a nice moment because it was important to score a second and Liverpool had an opportunity after it. It was a good feeling because my team-mates were doing well.
'Didier did all the job because he managed to pass the ball, I don't know how, and I was there at the right time. It was magnificent what he did, so I guess the goal is 90 per cent for him.'
The win leaves us top of the table as we head into a two-week international break. You will be able to hear about all the Chelsea players in action right here on Chelseafc.com, while Chelsea TV Plus has all the highlights from yesterday's game.

Salomon Kalou Signs New Three-Year Deal At Chelsea
The Ivorian striker has committed his future to Stamford Bridge…
Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou has today signed a new contract with the club which should keep him in west London until 2012.
Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti was delighted with the 24-year-old's decision, telling the club's official website: "I am very pleased that Salomon has signed a new contract with us as he is an important player for this club.
"He is always well-motivated and works hard at his game at all times. Because of this, I am sure that Salomon will become an even more important player for Chelsea in the future."
Kalou joins stars such as John Terry, Ashley Cole and Didier Drogba in committing to Chelsea, who are banned from signing any new players for the next two transfer windows.
The versatile striker is in his fourth year at Stamford Bridge. He has scored 31 goals in 93 starts and made 66 substitute appearances for the west London outfit.

Aston Villa 2-1 Chelsea: Dunne & Collins Seal Home Win
Villa defenders punish Blues with headed goals.
Aston Villa condemned Chelsea to a second successive defeat away from home in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory at Villa Park in Saturday's early kick-off.
The Blues took the lead around the quarter-hour mark when Didier Drogba left James Collins for dead before smashing the ball into the bottom left corner from about 35 yards out.
Richard Dunne leveled the score in the 32nd minute when he headed home from an Ashley Young corner.
James Collins secured maximum points for the Villans thanks to his headed goal seven minutes into the second half from another Ashley Young corner.
Chelsea traveled to Villa Park sitting top of the table having won seven of their first eight Premier League games of the 2009/10 campaign.
Carlo Ancelotti's side were boosted by the return of goalkeeper Petr Cech following suspension while Florent Malouda was called into to action, replacing the injured Michael Ballack.
Villa manager Martin O'Neill opted to stick with John Carew and Gabriel Agbonlahor in attack, leaving Emile Heskey on the bench.
The home side had appeals for a penalty waved away by referee Kevin Friend in the 12th minute after Agbonlahor went to ground following a challenge from Bosingwa.
Perhaps a little fortunate not to be a goal behind and a man down, Chelsea surged forward looking for an opener.
The London-based outfit were rewarded for their attacking display in the 16th minute when Didier Drogba drilled the ball past Brad Friedel from long range.
The USA international goalkeeper might have felt he should have fared better as the ball flew into the bottom left corner of his goal.
Chelsea looked to be in control of the game but failed to double their advantage, much to their dismay.
With 32 minutes on the clock, an Ashley Young corner from the left was flicked on at the near post by Frank Lampard only for Richard Dunne to beat Ricardo Carvalho to the ball and head home.
The Blues refused to give in and pushed forward searching for a second goal, Deco and Drogba seeing efforts thwarted by the home side.
Ancelotti's side might have looked the more likely to find the net again but seven minutes into the second half it was O'Neill's team who did so.
The Blues were unable to deal with another Young corner whipped in from the left allowing James Collins to nod the Birmingham-based club into the lead.
Chelsea once more pushed forward as they sought a way back into the match but efforts from Deco and Florent Malouda failed to trouble Friedel.
Villa might have made it 3-1 with 18 minutes to play, but Carew was unable to convert a James Milner pass, smashing the ball high over the Chelsea goal.
Nicolas Anelka drew another save from Friedel as the Blues refused to give up the opportunity to take a point back to London but Aston Villa held on for a fifth win on the season.
